WHAT IS THE NSFAS?
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a loan and bursary scheme funded primarily by the National Department of Education.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme of South Africa (NSFAS) seeks to impact on South Africa's historically skewed student, diplomate and graduate populations by providing a sustainable financial aid system that enables academically deserving and financially needy students to meet their own and South Africa's development needs.
What is an NSFAS BURSARY?
A NSFAS BURSARY IS THAT PORTION OF THE AWARD THAT DOES NOT NEED TO BE REPAID. THE SIZE OF THE BURSARY IS DETERMINED BY A COMPUTER MEANS TEST WHICH TAKES INTO ACCOUNT:
·INCOME OF THE FAMILY
·NUMBER OF DEPENDENTS IN THE FAMILY
·RELATED EXPENSES SUCH AS TRANSPORT COSTS ETC.
WHO QUALIFIES FOR A NSFAS BURSARY?
A STUDENT QUALIFIES FOR A NSFAS LOAN IF HE/SHE IS:
• A South African citizen registered at a South African FET college. •
an undergraduate, studying for a first tertiary educational qualification, or studying for a second tertiary qualification, if this is necessary to practise in your chosen field.
• ABLE to demonstrate potential for academic success
•financially needy
COMPULSORY REQUIREMENTS:
•A fully completed application form - available from the bursary officer at the campus.
•2 Certified copies of parents and student ID
• Proof of income or affidavit confirming income.
•Proof of residential address (utility bill etc.)
